They each are plagued with unrequited love, and depressed by their own inability to woo the suitor of their choosing. Each of them are unable to accept the female role of passivity. Although both women seem to accept their roles of wives at the conclusion of the plays. Upon further examination, one will find that Beatrice is a much more complex character. One would have to agree with the critic who said, "Katharina is a character sketched in bold, rapid stokes, with none of Beatrice's sophistication, verbal brilliance, or emotional depth." In Taming of the Shrew, the first introduction to Katharina, by Gremio and Hortensio, tells that she is a shrew, (1.I .54-60) and that she will never find a groom. When she first speaks we see her responding to these insults, but she was provoked so her words seem appropriate. Yet as the play continues we see Katharina tying up Bianca, (2.I.29) and hitting her. This can be rejected as sibling rivalry, but later Katharina slaps Petruchio when he is trying to woo her (2.I.214). Katharina seems to have a physically violent side that isn't present in Beatrice. She also does not seem to have as strong as a character as Beatrice, especially when one considers that Petruchio was able to tame her in a very short time. In the opening scene of Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice says some harsh things about Benedick (1.I.37-43). She seems to be unprovoked but very rigid in her opinion of him. In Leonato's house, the discussion of Beatrice and marriage leads her uncle to conclude that, "Thou will never get thee a husband if thou be so shrewd of thy tongue."(2.I.18-19) Beatrice will participate in a verbal game of wit by exchanging words with Benedick but she is more sophisticated than to just slap him for no apparent reason. Beatrice is also very sociable with other people and seems to be a shrew just when talking about Benedick and other males. Not unlike Katharina, who was told she would marry Petruchio (2.I.260-268), Beatrice does not consent to marry Benedick directly. Beatrice has to be entrapped with the love sonnets that Hero stole from her pocket (5.IV.88-90). Even at the conclusion of the play, it seems as though Beatrice will not change her attitudes, just her status as an unma! rried woman. Both Beatrice and Katharina participate in stichomythia, a kind of verbal Ping-Pong match, with their suitors. Katharina seems to go for the vulgar and obscene insults like, "No cock of mine. You crow too like a craven." (2.I.222) Most of Katharina's lines are short, two or three lines at a time, and she does not use very many complicated analogies. Beatrice is not obscene in her exchange of words with Benedick, but she seems to have more to say and does more than just respond to insults. Katharina does not seem to be the type of person to write love sonnets about Petruchio, yet Beatrice did write them about Benedick (5.IV.88-90). Beatrice seems to reflect strong verbal feelings of disgust with Benedick and his going off to be a soldier, "I pray you, how many hath he killed and eaten in these wars? But how many hath he killed? For indeed, I promised to eat all of his killing." (1.I.36-43) Katharina reflects bitter feelings because her sister has more suitors than ! she, but her statements are neither strong nor memorable. Both women have an emotional side, yet Katharina seems more shallow, and the audience seems to understand why she does what she does. Beatrice, on the other hand, is harder to figure out. She spits insults at Benedick one minute and the next writes love sonnets about him. She seems to switch moods rapidly and without apparent reason. An example that show the emotional depth of each women is the idea that neither of them are being wooed by suitors. Katharina, "cursed Kate", openly shows her jealousy of her younger sister, while she is being passed and even avoided by suitors because of her tendency to speak her mind. But then I decided to see if I could discover other examples of annunciation used in contexts calling for enunciation. I found quite a few. Not surprisingly, many of the errors occur on amateur sites and forums where correct spelling is not an issue: He had a pretty heavy lisp, and the thing that was most pronounced was his over-annunciation of words so that his speech was very slow and drawn out. Almost 5 [years old and] has annunciation issues. just started speech therapy 2x week 30 minutes each. Itââ¬â¢s just an overall annunciation issue, rather than a particular sound. The Ombudsman: Concept and Mechanisms for ADR The role of Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) in resolving the grievances of private citizens has expanded over the years to achieve a status even among attorneys as a valid legal and useful practice. Rather than merely an alternative to costly litigation, it has resurrected ââ¬Ëtraditional notionsââ¬â¢ about the use of negotiation and out of court settlement.1 Over the past two decades ADR has evolved into a complex arena for settling disputes, encouraged by the rise in popularity and acceptance of the ombudsman as prime impartial negotiator. With the increased use of ombudsmen, officials in this role can be found at all levels of government, as well as in settings of private industry and academia. Modeled on a long established Swedish precedent, the concept took hold in Europe the 1960s along with a growing ââ¬Ëpower to the peopleââ¬â¢ movement seeking redress for the average person against the powerful forces of government and industry in dispute situations. Ombudsman were to assist in achieving fairness by means of independence, unfettered access to records and persons, careful investigation, impartiality and the prestige of the office. Ombudsman today can be found in almost any official capacity where parties involved in disputes are in need of an impartial negotiator. Differences in the operational aspect among these negotiating agents often depend upon where he or she is expected to function, but always within the clearly defined parameters of impartiality and/or political neutrality. In the private corporate environment, the ombudsman may not only resolve differences between workers and employers, but often affect better conditions in the workplace that discourage extreme acts by the offended party or parties as a means to resolution. Mechanisms employed in these circumstances may prove simple or complex, depending upon the nature of the grievances or dispute, as well as the commitment and attitudes of the parties at odds. The goal, however, is always the same: a fair resolution to a conflict of interests that satisfies and is fair to both parties achieved in a non-litigious setting. In the public arena--as in disputes with government and public agenciesââ¬âthe ombudsman also functions as a bureaucratic monitoring mechanism. Basically, the activity in the public realm may be viewed as threefold: as stopgap measure to holding administrators accountable for treatment of citizens; as righting wrongs done to citizens, and as a tool to dissuade citizens from becoming alienated from the tangled government bureaucracy, rendering it, or seemingly so, more human and personal. To Autumn ââ¬â A Proclamation of Life and Hopeà à The poem "To Autumn" is an amazing piece of work written by one of the greatest poets of all time, John Keats.à From a simple reading, the poem paints a beautiful picture of the coming season.à However, one may wonder if there is more to the poem than what the words simply say.à After it is studied and topics such as sound, diction and imagery are analyzed, one can clearly say that Keats used those techniques to illustrate the progression of death, and to show that there is still life at the end of life.à à à à à From the very beginning of "To Autumn,â⬠sound appears to be an important aspect of Keatsââ¬â¢s technique.à When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft sounds.à Some soft sounding words ââ¬â words that use consonant sounds that are soft when spoken such as an s -- include mists, close, son, bless, mossed, and trees.à There are also the hard sounding words ââ¬â words that use consonant sounds that are loud when spoken such as a b or t -- like maturing, round, thatch, and budding.à The words do not appear to be randomly used, but they seem to have a pattern: the hard and soft sounds come in pairs.à In the second line, we see, "close bosom friend of the maturing sun.â⬠à Close and bosom go together, with close being loud and soft with the hard c and soft s, and bosom being loud and soft with the b and s.à The words ââ¬Å"maturing sunâ⬠are not placed together haphazardly either.à Maturing is a v ery hard word with the m and t sound; sun is a very soft word, beginning with an s.à Also, in the third line Keats says, ââ¬Å"Conspiring with him how to load and bless.â⬠à Autumn is conspiring . . . to load (loud due to the p and d sounds) and bless (soft due to the double s soun... ...cluding lively images such as crickets singing, red breasts whistling, and swallows twittering.à This ends Keats message of the vitality at the conclusion of life.à à à à à Keats used the poem "To Autumn" to illustrate the progression of death and the existence of hope and life in the face of impending death.à He uses sound by moving from a mixture of loud and soft words in stanza one, to mainly soft in stanza two, to a complete mixture in stanza three of soft then loud.à He also uses diction and imagery by reflecting the quick and kinesthetic constitution of youth, the slow and full characteristics of the coming death, and the arrested and barren traits of death, and finally, the resounding proclamation of life and hope in the very end.à Works Cited: Keats, John. Safety Risk Critique
Occupational Safety and health risks refer to those elements in the workplace which pose as danger to the employees, the environment and the surrounding community when exposed to them (Confer, 1999). These are things which threaten the safety and health of people if not controlled. In work places, these risks can be environmental which includes pollution in terms of noise and release of toxic gases, physical hazards such as collisions and falls of workers, falling objects and electricity, biological hazards such as fungi and bacteria invasion and chemical hazards whose agents are acids, bases, solvents and any other reactive chemicals (Boyd, 2003). There are guidelines and standards that have been set by the labour agency through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) which must be followed and the standards met by all employers. Failure to comply with the rules and meet the standards results to the employer facing the serious risk of litigation, damage to their image when exposed amongst others (Charney, 1999). Statement of the Research Problem Prime contractors have the responsibility of providing a safe and healthy workplace to all their employees by identifying hazards and controlling them. These contractors hence face the serious risk of safety management when they subcontract. This is because in the event that prime contractors subcontract, they still are responsible for the safety of their employees as OSHA regulations do not relieve the prime contractor of the overall compliance to the standards (Mintz, 1984). These risks include injury to the subcontracted employees, citation of irregularities by the OSHA officials whose origin is the subcontractorââ¬â¢s negligence and violation of the required standards and the risk of negative publicity which could hurt the prime contractorââ¬â¢s image in the market hence reducing his competitiveness. Though the responsibility is shared between the prime contractor and the subcontracting agency, the prime contractor has to find means of ensuring that the subcontractors have implemented effective safety and health regulations so as to avoid exposing the employees to hazards that have been cited by OSHA. Getting a standard means of controlling the subcontractor without taking unnecessary control is not easy. Too much hands on method could cause liabilities to the prime contractor while hands off could end up not being effective. This research aims at getting an optimum and standard care method that should be used by prime contractors to help them minimize occupational safety and health risks related to subcontractors. A Description of the Research Procedures The study started by identifying the responsibilities of employers (in this case of the prime employer and the subcontractors) in providing a safe and healthy working environment to their employees. It then studied the stipulated OSHA regulations concerning situations that involved subcontracting. The study identified the potential safety management risks faced by prime contractors in this situation and the cares that the prime contractors could take to minimize the occurrence of the mentioned safety management risks. It discussed the remedies that prime contractors could take such as contractual transfer of liability by considering certain facts about how responsible the subcontractors were in ensuring safety of their own employees, and studying the policies implemented by subcontractors to ensure safety of their employees before subcontracting. The study identified the main safety related risks for prime contractors and discussed the value of achieving low injury rates. Finally the study researched on how to achieve the best safety performance from subcontractors and made a conclusion. Flaws in the procedural design In my view, the procedural design had no flaws in it. This is because all the elements of a good research are present in the thesis. It has an introduction of the topic and states the problem. It has outlines what the objectives of the study are and justifies them just as any good research usually does. It identifies the problems and discusses the results of the findings. It offers recommendations and a conclusion at the end. The only problem is that we are not told the method the researchers used to use to gather the data that was used to make the make the discussions and draw the conclusions. We do not know whether it was observation, interviews, questionnaires or the other methods of data collections that are normally used in serious research was used in this research.. Analysis of the data The data obtained is reliable and could help the prime contractors minimize safety management risks if they followed the recommendations to the book. The research discusses its findings and relates them to the regulations stipulated by OSHA so that there is no contradiction even when making the recommendations. The study gives several methods and options that could be used and taken by prime contractors to help reduce the safety risks. The data tells us of the safety related risks for prime contractors which include accidents of employees, litigation and harm to the prime contractorââ¬â¢s image all of which could occur as a result of the subcontractor not being keen on adhering to the rules and regulations required by OSHA. The date explains the prime contractors risk higher probability of facing litigation in the event they use too much of the hands on system with the subcontractors. This could be true as they end up being too involved with the subcontractors operation such that in the event an accident happens, they may be blamed as they are seen to be in control. The data also explains that accidents are some of the things in things world which are inevitable and whether the prime contractors follow the recommendations provided or not accidents are to bond to happen and the prime contractors have to be prepared to deal with them. The data discusses that the advantages of achieving low injury rates is that it enables the prime contractors to avoid the risks associated with fatal accidents and hold a good image to the share holders and the public. The data then gives suggestions to the prime contractors on how to achieve the best performance from subcontractors. This basically is by the prime contractors being careful in choosing who to subcontract to. It urges the prime contractors be careful in the method they use to control the subcontractors operations where safety and health issues are concerned so that they do not take the blame by being too much involved (higher side of the hands on method). They have to balance their influence. Conclusion We can conclude that the research was a good one as it was detailed in identifying the problem, explaining the potential risks and compared them with the OSHA regulations and gave the solutions to the problems that were not contradicting with the expected regulations. The study further gives recommendations. The data obtained was not biased as it gave both the negative and positive aspects of any suggestion made. It advices the prime contractors on what they should do in order to avoid safety management risks from arising.

Fall in and dulce et decorum est Essay
During WW1 war poetry changed dramatically. At the beginning of the war, in 1914, propaganda poems were a popular technique to encourage men to join the army to fight for England. Harold Begbieââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢ was a typical highly patriotic poem that persuaded men to enlist. However, poetry changed at around 1916, after the Battle of Somme, when thousands of men were killed. Soldiers like Wilfred Owenââ¬â¢s wrote poems showing the real terrors they faced in war. Both poems are war poems and both poets use different language techniques to provoke the readerââ¬â¢s feelings. This essay will compare ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËFall inââ¬â¢ by looking at the language, structure used and the poetsââ¬â¢ attitude towards war. Begbie uses many techniques to make men want to enlist to fight for their freedom in ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢. This poem was published as a ââ¬Ëcall to warââ¬â¢ in newspapers and magazines. Highly patriotic poems are also known as jingoistic poems and were very popular at the beginning of the war, as they persuaded men to enlist. We see an example of a patriotic phrase in stanza two; ââ¬ËIn the war that kept men free? ââ¬Ë This implies that England was free before the war and by joining the war the men are helping to keep England free forever. This is patriotic, as it is saying how good England was and how everyone had there freedom. Men liked their freedom and so enlisted. Also; ââ¬ËAnd Right is smashed by Wrong? ââ¬Ë supports the idea of patriotism, as the word ââ¬ËRightââ¬â¢ describes England and ââ¬ËWrongââ¬â¢ describing Germans. Meanwhile, Owenââ¬â¢s poem is based on his own war experience, and his poems convey the pain, and suffering the soldiers encountered by using a range of similes, metaphors and onomatopoeias; A simile; ââ¬ËCoughing like hagsââ¬â¢ illustrates how weak and ill the soldiers are. The metaphor ââ¬ËKnock kneedââ¬â¢ emphasizes how tired the men are as if they are about to collapse as their knees cannot support them anymore. The onomatopoeia in stanza three presents the poem in a more realistic way; ââ¬ËCome gurgling from his froth corrupted lungsââ¬â¢ uses the onomatopoeia ââ¬Ëgurglingââ¬â¢. The reader can almost hear the painful sounds of the dying man. Secondly, Begbie says that soldiers who go to war will not be mocked and will be loved for their bravery when they come back. The poem threatens the reader that if he does not enlist, he will be looked down upon and we see this from the line; ââ¬ËBut what will you lack when your mate goes by with a girl who cuts you dead? ââ¬Ë The words ââ¬Ëcuts you deadââ¬â¢ support the same idea. ââ¬ËWhen the girls line up the street shouting their love to the lads to come backââ¬â¢ shows that girls will praise and love the soldiers who come back from war. Men like having lots of attention and will therefore join the army. On the other hand, Owen presents a very different view. Owen believes that soldiers will be destroyed and traumatised forever after the war; ââ¬ËIn all my dreams, before my helpless sight, he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowningââ¬â¢. Here, Owen talks about how endless nightmares tortured him every night. The nightmare was described vividly to the reader, so those who want to enlist will think about the consequences. When Owen says, ââ¬ËIn all my dreamsââ¬â¢ it shows that he saw the man every night. He was badly affected after seeing the horrors in war. Many soldiers were badly traumatised after the war and had to be taken to a psychiatric hospital. This is the opposite picture Begbie creates; there are no cheerful soldiers being chased by women. Thirdly, Begbie uses a question and answer structure to make the reader question why they are not going to war. For instance, ââ¬ËHow will you fare, sonny, how will you fare in the far-off winter nightââ¬â¢ is one of Begbieââ¬â¢s questions which occur at the beginning of each stanza. The poem assumes that man is going to live. Most people are scared of death at war, but the way that Begbie assumes the reader will survive makes the reader think that it is an easy war and, so, it is not a problem joining the army. Also, the way Begbie uses the word ââ¬ËSonnyââ¬â¢ displays the idea that he is older that the reader and most young men, at that time, respected their elders very much and would listen to what they said. The answer; ââ¬ËWill you slink away, as it were from a blow, your old head shamed and bent? ââ¬Ë would make the men who are not fighting want to enlist, as they know it could happen to them one day. Conversely, ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ has a much different structure. Here, Owen describes what trench life is like and then follows on to describe a gas attack. There is no question and answer structure and instead every alternate line rhymes. The first stanza tells us of life in the trenches, and Owen emphasizes how weak the soldiers are. The second stanza describes a gas attack, and the third stanza describes what a gas attack does to its victim. Finally, Begbieââ¬â¢s attitude, which is shown in ââ¬ËFall Inââ¬â¢, is that all men should go to war. He is saying that all men should enlist and fight for their country. The last sentence; ââ¬ËWhen your brothers stand to the tyrantââ¬â¢s blow and Englandââ¬â¢s call is Godââ¬â¢s! ââ¬Ë demonstrates that Begbie expects all men to fight against the ââ¬Ëtyrantââ¬â¢s blowââ¬â¢ as ââ¬Ëbrothersââ¬â¢. He also compares Englandââ¬â¢s call to Godââ¬â¢s call showing that he thinks that Gods thinks that all men should fight against the Germans and their allies as well. People who were very religious might have thought that war was a chance to prove to God that they were brave and faithful to their country and should go to Heaven. In opposition, ââ¬ËDulce et Decorum estââ¬â¢ has a different attitude. Owenââ¬â¢s poem says why men should not enlist and that death in war is unnecessary and inevitable; ââ¬Ëthe old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est pro patria moriââ¬â¢ this means that it is not sweet and right to die for your country. The words; ââ¬ËThe old Lieââ¬â¢ proves that Owen disagrees with it being sweet and right to die for your country. We also see that Owen has a negative attitude towards other propaganda poets. For example; ââ¬ËMy friend, you would not tell with such high zestââ¬â¢ proves that he is against men being told to enlist; ââ¬ËMy friendââ¬â¢ implies that Owen is talking to a propaganda poet such as Begbie. He does not mean ââ¬ËMy friendââ¬â¢ and is using sarcasm. He blames the propaganda poets for making so many men think war is good and making them enlist, causing many deaths. Many people, when war was just announced, were extremely eager for it to start since they thought war would be over in a few months. The saying; ââ¬ËOver by Christmasââ¬â¢ was what everybody expected. However, the war lasted much longer then that-a total of four years. Charlton made movies for about ten years, he was an actors guild award winner, and he won the academy award winner for best actor. Before all of his fame Charlton was actually in World War One flying planes for the 11th army air forces. Charlton was in the air force for three years flying planes. While in WWII he also helped to maintain all of the planes. After his service in the air force he went home to be in a broadway play. After the war he settled into a job in the NRA. Charlton now has a job as president in the NRA. Charlton Heston is now the president of the NRA. Some of the things he does around there is he publishes a column in the American Rifleman, a magazine pulished by the NRA itself.
